Increase in Youth Minimum Wage
From 2027 onwards, the youth minimum wage will increase significantly. The government aims to improve the financial security of young people through this measure. The new policies ensure that young workers—especially those aged 18 and 19—will earn considerably more per hour. The increase ranges from €0.81 up to €2.20 per hour.
The group that benefits the most is 19-year-olds. They will earn €2.20 more per hour compared to the youth minimum wage of 2026. This amounts to 75% of the statutory minimum wage that applies to employees aged 21 and over.
The increase in the youth minimum wage is a response to the rising cost of living. The minimum wage is adjusted every six months based on collectively agreed wages (CAO wages). When the minimum wage increases, the youth minimum wage rises accordingly.
Increase per age group:

From 2027, young people will clearly earn more due to the increase in the youth minimum wage. This is especially significant for 18- and 19-year-olds. Because the youth wage is linked to the minimum wage, it will continue to keep pace with the cost of living in the future.
