Your First Day at Work Through Opus: What to Expect and How to Prepare

The night before your first day, you're probably lying awake thinking: What should I wear? What time do I need to be there? Who will I meet? Starting a new job is exciting—but with the right preparation, it doesn't have to be stressful.

Before Your First Day: Getting the Basics Right

Before your first working day, Opus ensures that all the essential arrangements are taken care of. Your employment contract, working hours, workplace location, and—where applicable—transportation and work clothing are all organised in advance. That way, you'll know exactly what to expect before you even walk through the door.

What Can You Do to Prepare?

  • Bring a valid form of identification.
  • Plan your route well in advance, especially if you've never been to the location before.
  • If you're unsure about the dress code, ask beforehand. It's always better to ask than to arrive underdressed or overdressed.
  • Bring a small notebook. You'll receive a lot of information on your first day, and it's helpful to write important things down.

What Can You Expect on Your First Day?

Every workplace is different, but most first days include the following:

A Workplace Introduction

You'll meet your manager and colleagues and receive a tour of the workplace.

Safety Instructions and Company Rules

Especially in operational roles, safety procedures and workplace rules are usually one of the first topics you'll cover.

Your First Tasks

You probably won't be expected to work independently straight away. Most people begin by shadowing an experienced colleague or completing a simple introductory task.

Support from Your Opus Consultant

Even after you've started your new job, your Opus consultant remains available. If anything is different from what you expected or if you have questions, we're only a phone call away.

Not Sure About Something? Just Ask

It's completely normal to have questions during your first days—about working hours, breaks, expectations, or the workplace culture. No one expects you to know everything immediately. In fact, asking questions shows that you're motivated and eager to do a good job.

Opus Supports You Beyond Your First Day

At Opus, our support doesn't end once you've started working. We regularly check in with both you and your employer to make sure everything is going well. By staying in touch, we can solve small issues before they become bigger problems.

That means you'll never be left to figure everything out on your own.

A successful first day is the foundation for a successful job—and together, we'll make sure you get off to the best possible start.
